Ways to be in Nature.

Gentle connection through nature, shared interests and community.

Ways to be in Nature offers relaxed, neurodivergent-friendly activities designed to support wellbeing. There's no right way to take part, just opportunities to spend time outdoors, explore shared interests and connect in a way that feels comfortable for you.

About Ways to be

Ways to be in Nature are workshops with activities built around our communities interests and passions.

We developed these workshops because nature often comes with a lot of unspoken “shoulds”: be quiet, stay a while, no distractions. We understand how exhausting it can be to navigate these expectations and how difficult it can be when they don’t align with your needs or preferences.

You don’t need to be “outdoorsy,” and there’s no right way to take part in our Ways to be in Nature initiative. We believe your connection with nature is yours to define.

Why we created Ways to be in Nature

Many environments aren't designed with neurodivergent people in mind. They can feel overwhelming, exhausting or full of unspoken expectations about how we should behave.

Ways to be in Nature was created to provide a more supportive, flexible way of spending time outdoors.

We wanted to create spaces where people can simply arrive as they are, without pressure to socialise, perform, or mask. Whether you come to meet others, enjoy nature or simply spend some quiet time outdoors, you're welcome exactly as you are.

We’re creating spaces where you don't have to mask or perform, somewhere to just be as you are, alongside people who get it:

  • No pressure to join in a certain way.

  • No expectation to be social or “chatty”.

  • No problem if it feels hard, or if you need to step away.

There's always an indoor space to retreat to, and you can do as much or as little as feels best for you. Activities created together around shared interests.

What to expect

Our activities are flexible, relaxed and shaped by the people who attend.

You might find:

  • Gentle walks in local green spaces.

  • Creative or nature-inspired workshops.

  • Activities built around shared interests.

  • Quiet places to sit, observe and recharge.

No pressure. No masking needed. A space where you can be yourself and feel you belong

There is no right way to take part

  • You don't need to make conversation.

  • You don't need to explain your neurodivergence.

  • You can take breaks whenever you need to.

  • You're welcome to participate in whatever way feels comfortable for you.

  • There's no expectation to "join in" if you'd rather observe.

  • Self-identification is always welcome.

We believe spending time in nature should feel restorative, not another environment where you need to mask.

Why nature?

Nature gives us space to slow down.

Research suggests that spending time in green spaces can support wellbeing, reduce stress and help people feel more connected to themselves, to others and to the world around them.

For many neurodivergent people, nature also offers something that's often difficult to find elsewhere: fewer expectations, more choice in how they spend their time, and room to simply be.

Who is it for?

Ways to be in Nature is open to neurodivergent adults, whether you're self-identified or clinically diagnosed.

Whether you’re looking to try something new, build confidence, spend time in nature, or find a supportive community, we’re here to welcome you.
